The primary purpose is to provide a healthy environment for all. Personal use of all tobacco products is prohibited on property that is owned, operated, leased, occupied, or controlled by the University. Tobacco still may be used for research, educational and cultural activities.
The policy applies to all faculty, staff, students and visitors to Murray State University and all its regional campuses.
For the purpose of this policy, “tobacco” and “tobacco products” are defined by the Americans for Nonsmokers’ Rights  as any substance containing tobacco leaf, including but not limited to, cigarettes, cigars, pipe tobacco, hookah, snuff, chewing tobacco, dipping tobacco, bidis, blunts, clove cigarettes or any other preparation of tobacco; and any product or formulation of matter containing biologically active amounts of nicotine that is manufactured, sold, offered for sale, or otherwise distributed with the expectation that the product or matter will be introduced into the human body by inhalation. This does not include any cessation product specifically approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for use in treating nicotine or tobacco dependence.
No, a person may not use tobacco products in a vehicle on University property.
Upon special approval by the appropriate Vice President, controlled research on tobacco products, theatrical performances requiring tobacco, educational, clinical and religious ceremonies with tobacco may occur. Specific exemptions of property owned by the MSU Foundation exist as long as the property is not contained within the immediate footprint of the main campus, in not in an enclosed area, is at least 25 feet away from any structure, is not in an area where any instruction is occurring, and no official University event is being held.

Employees have access to cessation classes through Racer Wellness. Students and employees have access to many resources online. 

Violation of the regulation may result in corrective actions through the appropriate process that includes the MSU Student Life Policies, Rules and Procedures; MSU Personnel Policies and Procedures Manual; or other regulations and policies.
No, sidewalks touching Murray State property are in the Murray State boundary and are tobacco free zones.
