COVID-19 Information for International Students
We are aware of the impact that COVID-19 is having on many of you. Therefore, we want to make sure we are doing our best to support you and provide you with information on travel, immigration concerns, and updates concerning the university. We will be updating this page as new developments take place.
Q: I am not feeling very well. What resources are currently available for me while staying in Murray?
A: If you are not feeling well while in Murray and would like to get checked out, please consult with Health Services at 270-809-3809 or Primary Care at 270-759-9200.
Q: I am currently having trouble with the transition to online learning. How can I get my internet working and help with Zoom, Canvas, and online classes?
A: If you are experiencing problems, please call the Service Desk at 270-809-2346 or to visit the Murray State home page and click on the "Racer Support- Spring Semester" blue tab at the top for more information.
Q: I am currently staying on campus and need to know where I can get food on campus.
A: Dining Services is available to answer questions at 270-809-4600.
Q: I need some new/different supplies to be successful in my classes. Where can I find those resources?
A: The University Bookstore is here to help! Call them at 270-809-4388.
Q: I am staying in campus housing and there is a maintenance issue with my room and/or have general housing questions. Who should I call?
A: In order to report a maintenance issue or ask a general question, you can visit the front desk at Regents College or the Community Center at College Courts for work orders or questions. Additionally, the Housing office can be reached at 270-809-2310.
Q: I really would like some campus updates regarding the COVID-19 situation. Can I find that somewhere?
A: You can find the latest MSU updates here!
Whether or not to return to your home country is a decision that can only be made by you. Whatever you decide, we want to be able to provide you with the best advice at the time.
If you choose to return to your home country, check in with your DSO (Misty or Madison) to discuss your visa status. We will need to sign your I-20 for travel before you leave. Please check your I-20 before requesting us to sign it. Our signatures are good for one year from the date that it was signed. Please understand that you should be able to return for the fall semester as long as there are no travel restrictions at the time of your return. If you are an F-1 or J-1 student and decide to return home, please let our office know. Your DS-2019 does not need to be signed if your program ends in May. Signatures on the DS-2019 are valid for 6 months from the date signed.
Please keep in mind that international travel is constantly changing, and new travel restrictions could arise at any moment.
Reporting Address Changes
If you relocated away from campus or living at a different address other than your normal local/on campus mailing address, please make sure to update your address on MyGate. This is a SEVIS requirement and must be updated within 10 days from the date that you moved. Be sure to update your mailing/local off campus address and special refunds address.
- Go to Self Service Banner located in your Academics Tab.
- Click on Personal Information/View Update Address.
- Click on Update Addresses and Phones (on right side bottom), Click on Type of Address to Insert. In the drop-down box you will need to click on Mailing/Local Off Campus and special refunds (you will have to click on separate and update both addresses).
- Hit submit.
If you are an F-1 student graduating in May and would like to apply for OPT, you will need to email either Misty (email@example.com) or Madison (firstname.lastname@example.org) to start that process.
If you are an F-1 student who is needing to apply for CPT, you will need to email either Misty (email@example.com) or Madison (firstname.lastname@example.org) to determine eligibility. If it is deemed that you are eligible, one of the DSOs will let you know the proper paperwork and steps in the process by email and will coordinate the application completion.
If you are a current OPT student, please work with your employer to determine your status for employment at this time and moving forward. Please make sure to update Misty or Madison any time there are changes to your employment status or employer.
Online/alternative instruction, effective Monday, March 23, 2020, will continue through the end of the Spring Semester. Our faculty will guide this process (previously, we announced an end of online/alternative instruction on Sunday, April 5, 2020). Online or distance learning has been approved by SEVIS through the end of the semester, and this will NOT affect your immigration status.*
*Even if you are out of the country for more than 5 months, as long as you remain full time and complete your online course requirements as scheduled, your immigration status will remain Active.

It is important to stay in touch with your faculty members regarding your classes and delivery methods.
Campus and Student Events
Based on previous notifications and consistent with state and federal guidance, all campus and student events and activities are postponed or cancelled through Friday, May 15, 2020.
Our Saturday, May 9, 2020, Commencement ceremony has been cancelled.
