MURRAY, Ky. – The Murray State University Department of Global Languages and Theatre Arts will perform “Macbeth” at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 21-23 and 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 24 at the Robert E. Johnson Theatre in the Price Doyle Fine Arts.

Macbeth is William Shakespeare's tale of fate, magic and ambition in the extreme. A Scottish warrior and noble named Macbeth encounter three witches in the woods as he is returning from battle. They give many prophecies, including that Macbeth will become king of all of Scotland. As the prophecies begin to come true, Macbeth and his wife decide to act and resort to bloody means to rise in status. His rivals band together to try to take down Macbeth, and the final prophecies of the witches loom over the battlefield, seemingly marking Macbeth as either being completely invincible or spelling out the exact nature of his doom.
“This is a show I've wanted to direct for over 20 years,” said Director Matthew Crider. “It seems like a straightforward scary story about ambition, but there's a depth to it that's incredibly rewarding to dive into.”
Jackson Bell, who plays Banquo, added, “I believe that this show is very unique because all of the characters, no matter the size, are so intricate and important that every line and word they utter matters to the plot.”
