MURRAY, Ky. – Murray State University’s chapter of Alpha Mu Gamma (AMG), the national foreign language honors society, along with the Japanese Club, Department of Global Languages and Theatre Arts, International Student Organization and the Horticulture Club will host the Murray State Kite Festival and Earth Day Celebration on Saturday, April 22 at the Murray State University Arboretum (300 Hickory Drive in Murray, Kentucky). The Kite Festival is from 10 a.m. – noon and the Earth Day activities are from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
The activities provide a great chance for community members to experience different cultures from around the world. Children attending the festival will receive a “passport” that they can get stamped at tables and booths around the Arboretum. Booths will have prizes, crafts including kite-making and activities from a variety of countries.
Skyler Wilson, a graduate student specializing in sustainable agriculture, is organizing the Earth Day events with educational booths and activities.
“Community members will learn about ways to be earth friendly and have a chance to plant trees, shrubs and flowers in the Arboretum,” said Wilson. “We’ll also have educational booths about bees, pollinators, composting, planting how-to’s and water protection.”
Visitors are encouraged to bring a shovel and gloves to take part in planting trees, flowers and shrubs around the Arboretum. Freddy’s Iron Smoked BBQ food truck will also be onsite for refreshments.
