MURRAY, Ky. – Murray State University’s College of Education and Human Services (COEHS) is proud to announce Dr. Nikki Gaylord as the recipient of this year’s Board of Regents Teaching Award.
A licensed speech-language pathologist for more than 25 years, Gaylord is an associate professor in the center for communication disorders (CDI), where she also serves as a clinical supervisor.
Dr. Gaylord’s teaching career began in 2004 at Southeast Missouri State University, where she served as both an instructor and clinical supervisor until 2010. Following that, she returned to clinical practice as a speech-language pathologist before joining the Murray State faculty in 2019, where she has since made a significant impact in the field and the classroom.
Gaylord has four published articles in prestigious speech-language pathology and CDI journals and has more than 20 years worth of research and creative activity. Her research topics range from ethical issues in speech-language pathology, laryngeal obstruction in adolescent athletes, Parkinson’s disease and more.
Gaylord expressed her deep appreciation for the honor, sharing how meaningful it was for her to be acknowledged.
“It is a great privilege to be recognized by my colleagues, students and the Board of Regents for teaching excellence in the College of Education and Human Services,” Gaylord said. “To be chosen from this amazing group of educators is a true honor!"
Dr. Samir Patel, assistant dean in the College of Education and Human Services, served on the committee tasked with selecting the COEHS Board of Regents Teaching Award.
Patel noted that while all candidates presented strong submissions, Gaylord stood out for her long-standing dedication to research, as well as her deep passion for teaching and building meaningful connections with her students.
“Dr. Nikki Gaylord exemplifies the very essence of exceptional teaching and dedication to student success,” Patel said. “As an associate professor in CDI, her innovative teaching methods, commitment to fostering a supportive learning environment and passion for her students' growth make her a deserving recipient of the Board of Regents Teaching Award. Dr. Gaylord’s ability to inspire and empower future professionals reflects the highest standards of excellence in education.”
Gaylord, along with other recipients, will receive a bound certificate signed by the Board Chair and University President along with a $1,000 monetary award. In addition, a plaque of award recipients will be hung in Heritage Hall.
Recipients will be honored at the Faculty Recognition Banquet, which will be held later this semester.
