Murray State students to benefit from the Bradley T. Hughes Memorial Scholarship

MURRAY, Ky. The Alpha Omega Chapter of Alpha Gamma Rho (AGR) has made a gift to the Murray State University Foundation to endow the Bradley T. Hughes Memorial Scholarship, which will assist students at Murray State in obtaining an education.

Bradley T. Hughes of New Ulm, Minnesota, was a senior at Murray State majoring in the field of agriculture business at the time of his death on August 14, 1992. Bradley had been very active on campus, serving as house manager of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity as well as a mentor to his brothers and classmates. Because Bradley set such a positive example to others, his brothers established a scholarship to honor his memory several years ago and have been raising additional funds to reach the endowment level of $25,000.

“The Alumni Board of Alpha Gamma Rho-Alpha Omega set a goal in 2020 to raise enough money to endow the Bradley T. Hughes Memorial Scholarship Fund in order to provide a perpetual means of contributing to the education of a deserving recipient,” said Michael Dobbs, president of the Alpha Gamma Rho – Alpha Omega Alumni Board. “We also desired to be sure that the scholarship fund would never be depleted so that the memory of Brother Hughes would carry on for generations to come. We are excited to have achieved this goal and are honored to present this gift to the Murray State University Foundation. The Brothers of Alpha Gamma Rho-Alpha Omega, both active and alumni, look forward to additional ways we can contribute to the education of students for years to come.”

The Bradley T. Hughes Memorial Scholarship will support full-time students at Murray State with first preference given to applicants who are members in good standing of Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity.

“The AGR students are model citizens on campus, and their alumni are great role models in our community,” said Dr. David Durr, President, Murray State University Foundation, Inc. “This gift to honor one of their own, Mr. Bradley T. Hughes, will benefit future AGR Racers for years to come.”

This is not the only scholarship established by the brothers of Alpha Gamma Rho – Alpha Omega Chapter. In partnership with the Educational Foundation of Alpha Gamma Rho, the organization has also created the Alpha Gamma Rho Freshman Scholarship and the Alpha Gamma Rho Scholarship in memory of Dean Walton.

Jakob Stahr, president of the Alpha Gamma Rho – Alpha Omega Active Chapter adds, “The Bradley T. Hughes Memorial Scholarship gives much-needed financial assistance for today’s college students. By endowing this scholarship, the brothers of Alpha Gamma Rho-Alpha Omega are helping students for years to come achieve their dream of obtaining a college degree and embark in a future in their desired career path.”
