Accounting/Accounting and Computer Science scholarship available for deserving students

MURRAY, Ky. — In 1985, Robbie Irvin Trevathan established the Joe Pat and Robbie Trevathan Accounting Scholarship in honor and memory of her late husband, Joe Pat Trevathan, CPA, to assist deserving students pursuing an accounting or accounting and computer science degree at Murray State University. After serving two years in the US Army and several years as a Merchant Marine, Joe Pat attended Murray State, graduating with honors in 1962 with a business administration degree, and was named in the Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. He always aimed for perfection in his work and continued that same work ethic as a CPA, soon beginning the journey as co-partner of the CPA firm Richardson & Trevathan.

In the years following Mr. Trevathan’s untimely death, Mrs. Trevathan continued to remember the scholarship fund, making monetary donations for nearly 30 years to support students in memory of her husband. In January 2021, Mrs. Trevathan passed away, leaving a posthumous gift of $20,000 for the Joe Pat and Robbie Trevathan Accounting Scholarship to enhance and continue the perpetual impact she and her husband have had at Murray State.

“Her desire was for every young person at Murray State deserving of assistance in their effort to become a CPA, like her husband, would have the chance,” said Mrs. Trevathan’s sister, Ms. Catherine Glass.

The Joe Pat and Robbie Trevathan Accounting Scholarship is available for students majoring in accounting or accounting and computer science, and have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Past recipients who maintain the guidelines’ criteria may reapply and receive preference.
