Research project
Reason for conducting a research project: Obtaining a Ph.D. increases one’s earning power and job opportunities. McNair participants have a unique opportunity to engage in an in-depth, faculty-guided research project that gives them an edge when applying to graduate school. Graduate education involves research so students who have had experience in research will be better prepared for graduate school and research experience makes students more attractive to graduate programs. Plus, research is exciting and gives students a hands-on experience in their chosen field of study.
Stipend and research supplies: McNair scholars receive a $2800 stipend while completing a substantial research project. Additionally, the scholar may receive funding for supplies necessary to conduct their research.
Presentation opportunities: The McNair program assist scholars in finding presentation opportunities as well as funding travel for the scholar and faculty mentor to attend conferences for presentation.
