Faculty mentors
Faculty are crucial to the overall program by helping identify potential Scholars, serving as mentors, and preparing Scholars to be leaders in their field of study.
Faculty members that serve as McNair scholar mentors, play a critical role in an individual scholar’s experience. Faculty mentors are expected to not only guide a research, scholarly, or creative project, but also engage the scholar in discussion about professions within that field or discipline, counsel students about graduate school, transfer discipline-based skills, increase scholar confidence, and encourage the student to pursue a Ph.D. For their time and effort, faculty mentors are eligible for a $500 stipend as well as funding for travel with the scholar to attend a conference for the scholar’s presentation of research
