Anti-Virus Standard
1.0 Overview
This standard defines terms and procedures that are important for understanding Murray State University's stance on anti-virus software.
2.0 Purpose
The purpose of this standard is to provide all users with the appropriate information to abide by the Anti-Virus Software Policy.
3.0 Scope
This standard applies to all machines connected to the Murray State University networks.
4.0 Standard
4.1 Basic Information
- NEVER open any files or macros from an unknown, suspicious or untrustworthy source. Delete these attachments immediately, then "double delete" them by emptying your Trash.
- Never download files from unknown or suspicious sources.
- Avoid direct disk sharing with read/write access unless there is absolutely a business requirement to do so.
- Always scan external media (ex. thumb drives, external hard drives) from an unknown source for viruses before using it.
4.2 Murray State Owned Machines
All Murray State University owned machines must install the approved endpoint protection agent, unless authorized otherwise by Information Systems. This product is compatible with Windows, MacOS and Linux.
4.3 Non-Murray State Owned Machines
All non-Murray State owned machines that connect to any Murray State University network must have approved anti-virus and anti-spyware programs installed and updated with the latest definitions.
