College of Veterinary Medicine
With the approval and support from countless individuals and organizations, Murray State University is racing ahead toward a new College of Veterinary Medicine, offering a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree to support future generations of veterinarians and advance both the region and the Commonwealth in critical areas of economic growth, workforce development, and industry needs.
We are working toward obtaining the required American Veterinary Medical Association program accreditation through its Council on Education - please see our implementation planning document.
We are forward-moving. We are veterinarians. We are Racers.
Developing future veterinarians.
Our new College of Veterinary Medicine will offer students:
- A state-of-the-art new Veterinary Sciences Building to be constructed on our West Farm.
- Personalized, hands-on support from caring faculty and staff.
- Valuable learning opportunities across multiple University assets, including our A. Carman Animal Health Technology Center, the Rudolph Equine Education Center, multiple farms, as well as the Breathitt Veterinary Center, which is a nationally preeminent animal disease diagnostic laboratory.
- Connections with local and regional veterinarians during students’ course of study and following graduation.

From the Founding Dean
-

“The mission of the College of Veterinary Medicine is to educate professionals who will become leaders in advancing animal and human health through relationships established with those in our region and beyond. There is a great need for rural and regional practicing veterinarians. Our mission is to focus on serving underserved regions both within Kentucky and nationally, by recruiting students who desire to work in these areas upon graduation.”
