Financial Well-Being and Retirement Fair
Monday-Wednesday, April 7-9
Alexander Hall Auditorium

Meet our retirement vendors and hear short 1-hour presentations regarding budgeting, financial planning, estate planning, social security benefits, and retirement.  Representatives from KERS, KTRS, VALIC, Voya Financial (formerly ING), The Legend Group, Edward Jones, and others will give presentations in the auditorium of Alexander Hall.  Details will be announced on the Human Resources (HR) Benefits web page, RoundAbout Murray, and HR's social media sites.

Spring 2014 Health Fair
Wednesday, April 9
7:30 AM – Noon in the Curris Center Ballroom (3rd level)

The Spring 2014 Health Fair will feature screenings such as total cholesterol, blood glucose, blood pressure, BMI, & waist circumference.  Participants will also have an opportunity to have an EKG, a one-on-one discussion with health care experts, and health care advice on many topics.  This is open to faculty & staff, spouses, and retirees.

This event has been rescheduled from March 5.  There will be no pre-draw.

The fair will be sponsored by Lourdes Hospital.

Staff Performance Appraisals Due Monday, March 31
Appraisal forms and instructions are available on the HR Supervisor's Toolkit page under Performance Appraisals and at the links below.  They may be completed online.

The evaluation period is March 1, 2013 to February 28, 2014 for most staff.
Please send signed originals to HR via campus mail or deliver in-person to HR on the 4th floor of Sparks Hall.  These forms are to be received in HR by 4:30 PM, Monday, March 31, 2014.

Summer Hours and Holiday Calendar
The university's list of holidays for the year starting July 1, 2014 is available on HR's home page.  The summer hours schedule will effect most staff from Monday, June 2, through Friday, August 1, 2014.

Vacation - Use It or Lose It In Certain Situations
Faculty & staff members must use their accrued vacation or lose it when they leave a grant or when they move from a position that accrues vacation to one that does not accrue it. Persons who move from 12-month to 9-month contracts are common situations where this occurs. Also, 12-month faculty & staff may forfeit some vacation time at the end of a fiscal year in any year that their vacation balance exceeds 1.5 times their annual vacation accrual amount. Please contact Courtney Hixon (ext. 2156) to answer any questions about this.

Thinking of Retiring?
At least two months' notice is required for HR to process retirement applications.  Three or four months is preferred, but two months is the minimum.  Because the retirement systems expect retirement applications to be in their office one month before the retirement date, HR must have time to review, research, and complete the University's section, return the application to the employee, and allow time for the employee to mail the application before the deadline.

Military Leave
The Military Leave policy was revised to provide for 21 calendar days of paid leave when called to duty and carryover of unused military leave for up to two years.  The revised policy is in the Personnel Policy & Procedures Manual (Policy IV H – Annual Military Leave With Pay).  A pdf version of the full manual is available on the Personnel Policies & Procedures Manual website.

Excel Employment Test Possibly Ending
Please contact Blaire Bushart (ext. 3509) if you want Excel employment testing to continue beyond June 1.  Typing tests will continue as in the past, but the number of applicants testing their Excel skills has dropped to almost zero.  If no further need exists, then the testing will end after June 1.

2014 Benefits Guide
On-site employment interviewees and new faculty & staff may appreciate receiving the 2014 Benefits Guide.  It is available online and may be printed by the hiring department.
