Basic Life Insurance
Financial stability is important to every member of the university community. All regular, full-time Murray State employees receive basic $10,000 term life insurance coverage and a $10,000 accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) coverage at no cost to the employee.
Supplemental Life and AD&D Insurance
In addition to basic life and AD&D insurance, regular full-time employees can purchase additional supplemental term life coverage, which includes AD&D coverage up to $250,000 without evidence of insurability (EOI) and up to $500,000 with evidence of insurability. An EOI is a questionnaire and sometimes requires a brief medical exam. The cost for supplemental life and AD&D insurance is $.24 per month for every $1,000 of coverage. The coverage must be purchased in increments of $10,000. New hires may purchase supplemental life insurance up to $250,000 without evidence of insurability at initial enrollment.
Special Enrollment Opportunity Period - August 1 to September 15, 2013
Regular full-time faculty & staff may enroll, change, or stop participation in supplemental life and AD&D insurance during this special open enrollment period, which will have an effective date of October 1, 2013. No EOI is necessary when enrolling in supplemental life and AD&D up to $250,000, but it is needed for insurance coverage between $250,000 and $500,000. Of course, every fall, employees may enroll, change, or stop participation in it during regular open enrollment to be effective January 1, but employees may be required to complete an EOI for new coverage above $250,000.
