Murray State University Receives ESRI Special Achievement in GIS Award

On July 10th, 2013, Murray State University was awarded the ESRI Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) Award at the recent ESRI International Users Conference (ESRI UC) held in San Diego, CA.

At the ESRI UC to receive the award on behalf of Murray State was Michael Busby, MARC Systems Manager, and Dr. Fred Miller, the Hutchens Distinguished Professor of Marketing & Business for the Arthur J. Bauernfeind College of Business.

The ESRI SAG award is given to less than 0.1% of ESRI users and is awarded to recognize people and organizations which use GIS in new and innovative ways.

Murray State University was nominated for and chosen due to the widespread utilization of GIS among a variety of colleges and departments, from the Department of Geosciences and the Department of Biology within the Jesse D. Jones College of Science, Engineering and Technology, the Hutson School of Agriculture, and the Arthur J. Bauernfeind College of Business. Dr. Fred Miller was also recognized for being a leader in online education within the business discipline, the integration of his business exercises within the ESRI SpatialLabs, his use of ArcGIS Online in academia, and for publishing two books on Business Geographics through ESRI Press.
