Undergraduate

Welcome to the Department of Journalism and Mass Communications. JMC students graduate prepared to excel in the media-related career of their choice. Please take a few minutes to explore our majors in advertising, journalism, public relations and television production.

The JMC department is home to the student media. The Murray State News publishes every Friday during fall and spring semesters and is on the web at The News. MSU TV 11 airs several student productions during the fall and spring semesters on the local cable system.

The JMC department is one of only 119 programs in the United States fully-accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (ACEJMC). In May 2010, the department received its most recent six-year reaccreditation. Programs, classes, and majors are reviewed frequently and updated to reflect national academic and professional needs.

If you plan to choose one of our programs and enroll as a freshman, please view the four-year curriculum plan and more information.

If you plan to choose one of our programs and enroll as a transfer student from a KCTCS college or other institution, please view the two-year curriculum plan and more information.
