Student Media and Organizations

We strongly encourage our students to work in student media, such as The Murray State News or MSU TV-11, or participate in our Ads Club or Public Relations Student Society of America.

These organizations are excellent ways to explore your career in more detail and build your portfolio.

Here is a look at each:

MSU Ads Club

The MSU Ads Club is an American Advertising Federation student chapter.  Membership is open to any undergraduate student who has an interest in advertising.  Members get hands-on experience by participating in a number of activities, including the National Student Advertising Competition operated by AAF.  Since Murray State's participation is a club activity, our members can be on the Competition team for more than just one year.  The Ads Club meets weekly in Wilson Hall.  The Club’s adviser is Prof. Gill Welsch, fwelsch@murraystate.edu

Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA)

The Murray State Chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) is open to students majoring in public relations and all related fields (Music Business, Organizational Communication, Nonprofit Leadership, Marketing, Business Administration, Agricultural Communictions). PRSSA meets once a week, with special programs, activities or guest speakers as part of the agenda. Students have an opportunity to gain professional experience through PRSSA projects and meetings with alumni working in the field. Interested students should check the PRSSA bulletin board on the first floor of Wilson Hall for notices of meetings and activities. The Club’s adviser is Ms. Elizabeth Thomas, ethomas@murraystate.edu

MSU TV-11

MSU TV-11, the student cable station, airs local programming Monday through Thursday during the fall and spring semesters. Students who work with MSU TV-11 can gain experience as reporters, news writers, camera operators, audio operators and lighting technicians. The studios are located on the eighth floor of the Price Doyle Fine Arts Building. For more information call 270.809.3923.
