Commuter Students

Dear Commuter and Off- Campus Students,

On behalf of the White Residential College students, faculty, and staff, I would like to formally welcome you to Murray State University!  I am the faculty head of White College and I hope to get to know each of you during the fall semester of 2013.

White College has many valuable resources, staff, and services dedicated to helping you succeed in your classes and meet your academic goals. There are also staff committed to keeping you on the right track—and often they're just a question away.

As a student living off-campus, making connections with other students and getting to know the campus while commuting can be difficult. Our Residential College Council (RCC) is responsible for building a community amongst White College's student commuters by planning and promoting academic and social events. A commuter representative is available to answer any commute questions and to help you through your first year at Murray State! We sponsor events to unify commuter and off-campus students to bridge the gap between residential life on campus and students who live outside of campus. Our work includes:

  • Advocate for off-campus and commuter students in the community and on campus
  • Educate residential and non-residential students about transitional issues faced by off-campus students
  • Keep off-campus students connected to the Murray community
  • Help build positive relationships between commuter students and the White College residence
  • Provide resources and services to off-campus and commuter students

Faculty participation is at the heart of the very existence of White college. If you want to do well in class, please take advantage of our one-on-one individualized tutoring services (Attached). Our professors are tutoring math, algebra, geometry, calculus, physics, chemistry, psychology, Spanish, and English. Our objective is to help you reach the desired academic goals.

White College will take a look at the services currently offered for the commuter students and make suggestions for changes and/or additions.  We would like to talk with you about the overall commuting experience at MSU to determine how we can better serve you.

Our goals are to advocate for off-campus and commuter student needs and concerns to educate faculty and staff about commuter students and to enhance awareness of students’ needs.

Please complete our following survey/needs assessment to the right if this is not too much trouble for you so that we can address your unique needs as members of the university community.

If you have any questions about commuting or still can't find the information you're looking for, feel free to contact me with your question or concern. My office phone number is (270) 809-6958 and my e-mail address is .  I am looking forward to being a meaningful part of your college experience.

I would extend my very best wishes for a great spring semester!
