Without the support and encouragement of Murray State's campus community, any sustainable effort would be stunted. Dining would like to especially thank the hard working and enthusiastic students of the Murray Environmental Student Society, the Horticulture Department and Dr. Pat Williams, associate professor and horticulture operational manager for Pullen Farm, the location of Dining's sustainable garden.
One example of a MESS proposals adopted by Dining is the elimination of wasteful individual condiment packages and replacing them with bulk dispensers in the dining rooms. MESS students also researched Styrofoam recycling possibilities and helped Dining come to the decision to skip the nonbiodegradable material altogether for 100 percent biodegradable take out containers and utensils.
With each new semester and each new student, Dining welcomes a fresh wave of ideas for improvement in all aspects. Share your ideas with us!
