This program prepares students for entry into veterinary school at Auburn, Tuskeegee or other veterinary schools.

Academic Highlights

The Pre-Veterinary Medicine Program at Murray State University can meet the prerequisite requirements for any of the twenty-seven veterinary schools in the nation. The state of Kentucky has contractual agreements with Auburn University for thirty-four students and for two students at Tuskeegee Institute. These spaces are available to legal Kentucky residents on a competitive basis.



School of Agriculture facilities include the south wing of the Oakley Applied Science Building, the E.B. Howton Agricultural Engineering building, the Equine Instructional Facility, greenhouses and three farm complexes located near campus.

TheVeterinary Technology/Pre-Veterinary Medicine Program is located on the main farm complex in the A. Carman Animal Health Technology Center. The center houses classrooms, faculty offices, laboratories, a pharmacy, surgery suite, kennels and an x-ray room. The program is equipped with state-of-the-art supplies and equipment.


Veterinary Technology/Pre-Vet Club
Provides students with an opportunity to experience extracurricular events in their chosen field.
Club members attend the Mid-America Veterinary Conference held in Kentucky.

Allows students to hear speakers from across the country discussing issues in large animal, equine and small animal care programs.

Students participate in campus activities, such as Doggie Day Spas and Animal Health Day, as well as sponsor continuing education programs for veterinarians, technologists and technicians.
