The
Clara M. Eagle Gallery is a dramatic and exciting multi-level
exhibition space. An integral part of the Department of Art, it serves as a
unique source for experiencing fine art "first hand." Eagle Gallery
is the home to two National Juried Shows. The Magic
Silver is the biennial photography competition, now in its 28th year. The
Kentucky National is a national juried show open to all media with an emphasis
on new media.
Recent exhibitions in the main gallery featured contemporary
art from all regions of
the US, African art, contemporary tapestries from Spain,
functional and
nonfunctional ironwork, and contemporary woodworking. In
addition to temporary
shows, 1,200 artworks in the permanent collection, from
photography to
sculpture, provide a visual library for research. The
Eagle Gallery is also the
site for the annual spring student art exhibition
sponsored by the Organization
of Murray Art Students (OMAS). It is a yearly highlight
where students receive
numerous cash awards for artistic excellence and
outstanding scholarship.
The Eagle and Curris Center Galleries have 8,292 square feet
of exhibition space and support areas. There are four distinct exhibition
spaces: the Main level Eagle Gallery and the Foyer Gallery on the sixth floor
of the Fine Arts Center;
the Upper level Eagle Gallery in the Fine Arts Center;
and the Curris Center
Gallery in the Curris Student Center.
