Goals and Mission Statement

DPD Mission, Goals and Outcome Statements


The mission of the Didactic Program in Dietetics at Murray State University is to prepare graduates for successful entry into a dietetic internship and for roles as nutrition and food experts in their communities through a strong knowledge base, critical thinking and communication skills and an emphasis on lifelong learning.  Program outcomes data are available upon request.

The goals and outcomes of the DPD at MSU are as follows:

Goal 1: To prepare graduates with foundation knowledge and skills needed to enter a supervised practice component of entry-level dietitian education programs.

1) At least 70% of the students who are accepted into the DPD and are enrolled in the professional courses in the third year of the DPD will complete the program requirements within 3 years.

2) Over a five year period, 75% of graduates from the DPD will apply to a supervised practice program within 12 months of DPD completion.

3)  Over a five year period, 65% of graduates who apply to a supervised practice program the academic year they complete the DPD will be accepted.

4)  The mean rating that DI directors give program graduates on a survey will meet or exceed a rating of satisfactory

Goal 2: To prepare graduates to obtain employment in responsible positions in the areas of nutrition, dietetics, food service, food production or to continue their education in graduate programs.

1)  Over a five year period, the pass rate for DPD graduates taking the registration examination for the first time will be at least 80%.

2)  Within 3 years of completing the program, 60% of graduates who were not accepted into a supervised practice program will be either employed in a position delivering nutrition or health services or have continued their education in graduate programs.

3) Over a five year period, the one year pass rate for DPD graduates will be at least 85%.
