Gerontology
The Department of Community Leadership and Human Services coordinates an interdisciplinary
minor in social gerontology. Through this minor, students learn about the
aging process, services and techniques for working with
the elderly. The 21-hour minor in social gerontology combines course work
in several disciplines including sociology, social work, psychology, and
therapeutic recreation. A minor in gerontology provides students with the
background needed to provide services to older people. Of the 21 hours,
12 hours are specific required courses and nine hours are chosen from a list of limited electives.
Six hours must be upper-level courses completed in residence at Murray State
University.
