Welcome to the College of Education!
The College of Education is proud of its outstanding reputation for preparing professionals in early childhood, elementary, library media, middle and secondary education, reading and writing, special education, vocational and technology education, school administration, school psychology, counseling, and human development and leadership. These programs are characterized by personalized attention from faculty and hands-on experience in public school settings. Murray State University's teacher preparation program has been accredited by the Commonwealth of Kentucky since the institution's beginning as a state normal school in 1923. In addition, the programs within the College of Education are accredited nationally by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education.
The College of Education is located in a state of the art facility. The facility, Alexander Hall, has new furnishings, a smart board and computers in each classroom, three computer labs and wireless technology access throughout the building. Small class sizes, personal attention from faculty, close networking and partnerships with P-12 schools and classrooms, and the highest of expectations, integrity, and standards for program graduates are all hallmarks of the College of Education at Murray State University. Friendly, professionally recognized faculty scholars at local, state, national, and even international levels offer our students their expertise and guidance throughout their journey to become licensed teachers, administrators, and other school personnel. And, coupled with the many contributions of our P-12 school partners and colleagues, the preparation of our graduates is at the very highest levels.
Our graduates are found throughout the Commonwealth, the nation, and working in international schools. From Mongolia, Belize, Guam, California, Maine, Paducah and much more, there are more than 20,000 alums of this college having a positive impact on children and adult learners. Our graduates understand that this is a "destination" college and one that resonates with pride and success.
