Campus Emergency Response Team Program
The mission of the MSU CERT (Campus Emergency Response Team) program is to work in partnership with the Office of Environmental Safety & Health, Department of Public Safety & Emergency Management and the university community to produce a pool of faculty and staff trained in disaster preparedness and emergency response to provide leadership and coordination during an emergency. This team will provide critical support to professional responders and immediate assistance to victims. In the event of a catastrophic disaster, services and support from the City of Murray, Calloway Count and the State of Kentucky will likely be limited and possibly committed elsewhere for up to three days or more.
What is CERT?
The MSU CERT program is about readiness, people helping people, rescuer safety and doing the greatest good for the greatest number. CERT is a positive and realistic approach to emergency and disaster situations where members of the campus community will be initially on our own and our actions can make a difference. Through training, faculty and staff can manage utilities and put out small fires; treat the three killers by opening airways, controlling bleeding and treating for shock; provide basic medical first aid; search for and rescue victims safely; and organize themselves and spontaneous volunteers to be effective in a disaster situation. The CERT program will benefit all faculty, staff and students on the university campus.
