US News and World Report rated Murray as one of the nation's top public universities, saying, "A degree from a distinguished college helps graduates get good jobs and gain entrance to the world's top graduate programs." MSU’s scoring shows it to be the 11th top public regional university in the nation, up three spots from last year’s rankings.
Murray is on the “America’s Best Colleges” list and named one of “America’s Top 100 Best Buy Colleges” by Forbes.
The Chronicle of Higher Education’s Great Colleges to Work For 2012 announced that Murray, based on a survey of faculty and staff, performed well in three categories: Professional/Career Development Programs, Respect and Appreciation, and Teaching Environment.
Murray State University was recently named a “Safe Community” by the National Safety Council and World Health Organization for campus-wide safety and health and the overall well-being of student, faculty and staff.
Murray is the “Friendliest Small Town in America” according to Rand McNally, a “Playful City USA Community”, and one of the “100 Best Communities for Young People.”
