Each on-campus residency must be followed by a tutorial semester. In other words, the on-campus residency and off-campus tutorial form a required sequence. During the tutorial semester, students submit work to their mentors using electronic or traditional mail. Mentors respond with suggestions for revision, which students complete and submit for evaluation and instructions for further revision. In the first three tutorial semesters, students also write annotations on many of the works on the reading list. These annotations will eventually form the basis of both the introduction to the thesis and the teaching component of the thesis residency.
